SPR Presents Monterey Pop
Event Information
Spokane Public Radio invites you to see Monterey Pop, a film that helped shape rock history and be part of the taping of our radio show: Movies 101 on Wednesday, June 12, 7pm at The Bing Crosby Theater.
Monterey Pop is a 1968 concert film by D. A. Pennebaker that documents the Monterey Pop Festival of 1967. Featured performers include Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, the Mamas & the Papas, the Who and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. For many, it was their first exposure to these now iconic performers. In 2018, the film was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” They’ll also be a display of 60’s memorabilia from 4000 Holes in the lobby of The Bing.
