Viva's Holiday: Album Release and Concert
Event Information
Viva’s Holiday: An Opera in One Act played to full houses and earned glowing press in its premiere run in 2015. Described as a “touching, intimate family drama” (Oregon ArtsWatch), it is a lyrical story about a young woman on an unconventional path testing the limits of family acceptance during a visit home. It is also a love-song to the Portland underground and the experience of courageous self-discovery.
This concert performance of the opera celebrates the release of a new original recording of Christopher Corbell’s original score. Soprano Jocelyn Claire Thomas sings the role of Viva, with Sadie Gregg, Dan Gibbs, and Ray Jackson completing the cast and with twelve-piece chamber orchestra conducted by Erica Melton.
The libretto is based on the memoir of Portland stripper, spokesperson, and writer Viva Las Vegas. Viva’s own vocal group Bergerette will also perform, offering selections of French secular vocal music from the Medieval and Renaissance eras.
