The human voice is perhaps the most powerful of all instruments, expressing the deepest passions, joys and sorrows of our souls. Rachmaninoff wept at the sheer beauty of Vaughan Williams’ transcendent music set to Shakespeare’s Serenade to Music. Verdi applied operatic techniques to the sacred Requiem text, filling it with soaring melodies and lush orchestration to perfectly convey the text’s dramatic intensity. The result is his greatest “opera” and an icon of Western music. Be inspired by these monumental works and the power of voice. Come an hour early for the pre-concert lecture.
